In the heat of June, the sun blazed like fire. As Dreama stepped into the villa, a suitcase thudded at her feet.

A woman dressed in luxury stood at the entrance, looking down at her with a mix of envy and undisguised disgust, "Your belongings are all packed. From today, you are to leave this house and return to your biological parents."

Dreama, ignoring the suitcase, met the gaze of Beatrice, the woman she had called mother for seventeen years, with cold indifference.

The commotion at the door drew the attention of those inside, and soon Mr. Johnson and his children emerged.

Mr. Johnson, looking at the suitcase by Dreamas feet, chided, "Beatrice, what are you doing? Dreama has been our daughter for eighteen years."

"Shes an ungrateful child!" Beatrice retorted, glaring at Dreama. "I explicitly told her to give up the City Image Representative spot for Yvette, but she ignored me. If not for my inquiry, Id still be in the dark! If she had any conscience, she wouldnt have snatched what belonged to her sister."

Yvette, hearing her mothers words, hid her jealousy and feigned a look of grievance, "Mother, dont be like this. The City Image Representative opportunity is rare. Its understandable that Dreama wouldnt want to give it up. Perhaps theres something Im not doing well enough, or else I wouldnt have been selected..."

"How are you less than her? Everything she has is given by the Johnsons," Beatrice comforted her daughter.

Dreama watched the mother-daughter act, unmoved. She had seen such performances countless times and was now almost amused by it.

Three days ago, she had been hit by a car while saving Yvette, and everyone thought she wouldnt survive. When the Johnsons arrived at the scene, their first concern wasnt her injuries but comforting their crying daughter.

Lying on the ground, Dreama felt cold and more chilled by the conversation between Mr. Johnson and Beatrice—

"The cars front is smashed; she probably wont make it."

"Perhaps its for the best. If she dies, it means Yvettes calamity has truly been averted, not wasting the years weve raised her..."

Dreama had always known she was a tool for the Johnsons to shield Yvette from misfortune.

As a child, she didnt understand why she had to care for Yvette whenever she fell ill, and how Yvette would recover quickly while she would fall ill afterward.

Later, she met her master and learned that she and Yvettes destinies were perfectly aligned in the art of yin and yang.

She was the fortunate half.

The Johnsons kept her by Yvettes side, using her own fortune to offset Yvettes misfortunes, and with each shielding, Yvettes fate improved while hers declined.

If not for Dreamas preparations, she might have already died in the car accident, her fortune depleted.

It was also because of the accident that her biological father found her.

"Have you finished? Can I leave now?" Dreama asked, having heard the couple discuss her death with indifference, her last expectation of the Johnsons vanished, and she felt no reluctance to leave.

"Dont blame your mother; you were indeed wrong," Mr. Johnson said, his face as stern as ever. "Since your biological parents have come for you, you should go back with them."

Yvette also spoke up, her voice soft and timid, "Sister, dont be angry with mom. She does it all for me."

She handed Dreama an envelope, pretending to be considerate, "Heres a thousand dollars. I heard from dad that your biological parents live in the mountains where the internet is poor. Its better to bring some cash."

Beatrice snorted, "Dont say we dont care about the years weve raised you. A thousand dollars would last a year in the mountains. Weve been more than generous."

She added with a sneer, "Once youre back there, you probably wont have a chance to see us again. There are many bachelors in the mountains who cant find wives; you can marry one. After all, your grades are average, and you probably wont get into college."

Dreama looked at Beatrices condescending and malicious expression and said indifferently, "Your forehead wrinkles are deep, a sign of too much scheming and accumulated sins. Instead of worrying about me, use the thousand dollars to buy a face mask to remedy it."

She paused deliberately and added, "Though it probably wont do much good."

Dreamas serious tone made Beatrices face sharpen with anger, "How dare you speak to me like that, you ungrateful child!"

She raised her hand to slap Dreama, but the latter coldly watched her, slightly dodging, causing Beatrices slap to miss.

Beatrice was incredulous, "You dare to dodge..."

Yvette, seeing this, hurriedly held Dreama back, "Sister, dont make mom angry. If you speak nicely, she will forgive you."

Her words, though sweet, were meant to prevent Dreama from dodging Beatrices slap again.

Dreama was about to push her away when she noticed the jade bracelet on Yvettes wrist.

Abruptly, she grabbed Yvettes wrist and demanded coldly, "How did this bracelet end up with you?"

Yvette had deliberately worn the bracelet to show off.

Seeing Dreama finally notice her wrist, and being suddenly grabbed, she feigned shock and cried out in pain, "It hurts..."

At Yvettes cry, Beatrices expression changed, and she pulled Dreama away, shouting, "Dreama! What are you doing?!"

Dreama, however, stared at Yvette, her voice cold, "That was grandmas bracelet for me."

"Whats yours?! It was left for the Johnson daughter. Youre not a Johnson anymore, so the bracelet is Yvettes!"

Dreama clenched her teeth and let go of the suitcase, turning to Mr. Johnson, "I wont take anything from the Johnsons, I just want the bracelet grandma left for me."

If there was anything she cherished from the Johnsons, it was grandma.

Grandma was the only one in the family who truly loved her, even worrying about her well-being after her death.

That bracelet was the only memento she had from grandma.

Mr. Johnson, hearing Dreama, showed no change in expression, "Although you were adopted, Ive always treated you as my own daughter. We Johnsons are a respectable family; we cant let our daughter return to her biological family without even her luggage. Your biological parents are not well-off; you should take what you need."

He didnt mention giving her the bracelet.
