"23, Ms. Nan Lee, have you reached your family?" the nurse asked for what seemed like the umpteenth time.

Nan Lee glanced down at her phone; Kevin Jins number still showed no answer. She was in the Rivercity North Third Ring Elevated Bridge accident, where a bus had overturned and plunged into the river, leaving dozens injured and scattered across the hospital. While other families had arrived, hers were conspicuously absent.

The gruesome scene of the accident was still fresh in her mind, but it was the cold reality of her situation that chilled her to the bone. A thought crossed her mind: if she had died in this accident, would there even be someone to claim her body?

"Ms. Nan?" the nurse prompted again.

Nan Lee snapped back to reality, her face pale against the stark red of bloodstains on her clothes. Her voice hoarse but refined, she apologized, "Im sorry, he might be busy. Can I sign the papers myself?"

"Im afraid not. Without a family members consent, we recommend hospitalization for observation. A concussion is nothing to take lightly; we must be responsible for your life."

Nan Lee pressed her lips together, "Then Ill try again."

Exiting the ward, she overheard two nurses discussing a celebrity patient, Yvette Yao, known for her recent hit show "Mysterious Lovers." One nurse mentioned Yvettes boyfriend, who had rushed to her side immediately after the accident, taking the VIP channel and staying by her throughout.

Nan Lees grip on her phone tightened as she walked, her knuckles whitening. Outside ward sixteen, Kevin Jin was speaking with Yvettes agent. Though too far to hear, Nan Lee felt certain he was questioning Yvettes accident.

She dialed Kevins number. He paused, glanced at his phone, his brows furrowing even more.

"Hello?" he answered with an impatient edge.

"Where are you?" Nan Lees voice was raw, her tone.

Kevin didnt catch the undertone of vulnerability. "At the office," he replied coldly.

"Does Jin Corporation branch into hospitals now?" Nan Lee questioned, her voice laced with a bitter.

Kevins body stiffened, his expression darkening. "Are you following me?"

Nan Lee almost laughed, but her eyes reddened instead. His evident annoyance tightened her chest. "You flatter yourself, Mr. Jin," she paused, then added, "I saw someone on the news who looked like you, just checking."

Kevin dismissed her with a "boring" and hung up, disappearing into the ward.

Nan Lee scoffed at herself. Indeed, it was boring鈥攕eeing everything with her own eyes, yet calling to humiliate herself.

Eventually, Nan Lee was picked up by her friend, Tara Tang. If not for the lack of family to reach out to, she wouldnt have wanted to bother a friend. No one wanted to expose their tattered life to others, whether for ridicule or pity鈥攊t only added to the embarrassment.

"Wheres Kevin Jin?" Tara asked.

"At the office, I guess," Nan Lee replied, echoing his words.

Tara cursed under her breath, "That dog of a man, doesnt even come when his wife has an accident. Is he earning so much money to buy himself a coffin?"

Nan Lee joked back, "Maybe its for me."

Tara glared at her, "You still have the mood to joke! There was a dead person in the car behind you!"

"Yes," Nan Lee lowered her gaze, sighing inaudibly, "almost died..."

Tara, in a hurry, dropped her off and left. Nan Lee returned home, greeting the housekeeper before heading upstairs.

After showering, the traffic accident on the North Third Ring had made the headlines, but most of the terms were about Yvette Yao. While official media focused on the severity of the accident, entertainment outlets were more interested in Yvettes mysterious boyfriend.

The media didnt dare to disclose Kevin Jins identity, only hinting that he was a man of great wealth. Yvettes fans were busy denying the romance on one hand and expressing concern for Yvettes injuries in the comment sections of various media outlets.

Nan Lee found it somewhat amusing; the nurses had said Yvette had only minor scrapes鈥攚as everyone overreacting?

But soon, her expression darkened, and her heart clenched: Yvette had posted a pregnancy test on her social media.

Six weeks pregnant, and six weeks ago was the day he was photographed at the Lakeheart Villa.

The timing matched.

Nan Lee stared blankly at the screen, her heart crumpling.

Three years of marriage, a blank sheet.

When Kevin Jin returned, it was almost ten oclock at night.

The downstairs was quiet, with only the housekeeper present.

"Where is she?"

The housekeeper handed over his coat and whispered, "Madam came back and went to her room. She hasnt come out since, not even for dinner."

Kevins brow furrowed.

"Ill heat the porridge and take it to madams room."

"No need," Kevins tone was indifferent, "shell come down if shes hungry."

The housekeeper didnt ask further.

Kevin took a shower and stayed in his study for a while. At eleven, he checked his watch.

Usually, by this time, Nan Lee would bring in milk, even during arguments, she would have the housekeeper send it.

But today, more than ten minutes past eleven, there was no movement from the study door.

Unable to focus on the documents, after a few more minutes, he finally got up and returned to the bedroom.

He pushed the door open; the room was unlit, dark, with only the vague outline of a person lying on the bed.

Nan Lee opened her eyes the moment the door opened. She didnt move, feeling the bed sink as Kevin lay down beside her.

She turned over and reached under his pajamas.

Feeling the muscles under her palm tense suddenly, her touch became bolder.

Kevins breathing grew heavy, and as she continued to explore, he grabbed her hand and flipped her onto her back, pinning her down, "What are you doing?"
